Our story
Without digital trust, there is no growth. We gained this insight in 2015, when we had rolled out the standard interfaces for 12,000 tax advisors, 2,000 accountants, 300 software suppliers and five government organizations. In the university textbook Challenging the Chain we laid down the challenge for the next ten years, a reliable, electronic identity solution is needed.

That challenge became the foundation of Cleverbase. Founded in 2016 as a direct response to practice. We had already shown that it is possible to sign digitally with the same legal effect as a 'wet' signature. But the implementation was cumbersome: physical identification, smart cards and limited applicability made it impractical. In 2018 we proved that it can be done differently. We demonstrated that one hundred percent digital identification is possible, fully in line with the European eIDAS regulation, safe and user-friendly through a wallet app. This set a new standard: faster, simpler and affordable. As a result, we became intensively involved in the revision of the European regulation in this area: eIDAS 2.0. We are proud that our knowledge and experience can contribute to the development of a European digital infrastructure in which citizens are in control of their identity and in which cross-border trust is self-evident.
Today, more than a quarter of a million people have already carried out more than a million secure online transactions with Cleverbase. We support all European nationalities and continue to innovate, always under the motto: accessible and reliable. But just as important as the results is the way we work. At Cleverbase we believe that complex issues are best solved by small multidisciplinary teams that work intensively together. Developers, lawyers, security experts and designers work side by side every day, each from their own expertise, but always with one common goal: creating new value for the user.
We use domain driven design. We build our solutions around the language and reality of the user domains in which they function. This forces us to not only understand and model the technology, but also the processes and responsibilities. It is precisely this approach that enables us to remain agile within a strongly regulated domain. Where others take months for a release, we try to bring a piece of new value to production every day. Small steps, always tested in practice, make the difference together.
