About Cleverbase

Cleverbase is an innovative Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP), operating under the eIDAS Regulation. We build the digital trust infrastructure that organizations and governments can rely on: from qualified electronic signatures to digital identity and PKI services. What we build has to be right, legally, technically, and organizationally. Our customers depend on our systems for processes where there is no room for doubt.

As a scale-up in a strictly regulated market, we combine the agility of a small team with the discipline that comes with working in a compliance-critical environment. Tight policies, loose culture.

The role

As a Web engineer, you'll work on our web apps and our public website: the face of Cleverbase for everyone who uses our trust services. You make sure that qualified signing, identifying, and logging in doesn't feel like cryptography, but like an obvious step in the user's process.

You'll work full stack on our application platform and on top of applied cryptography. The coming years are centered on the European Business Wallet: the dashboard and the self-service integration with which organizations adopt the digital trust infrastructure for doing business online in Europe.

You won't just be building features. You'll make trust services broadly accessible by putting the web platform to effective use.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing and building web apps in TypeScript, front-end and back-end, with attention to accessibility, performance, and maintainability
  • Further developing the dashboard and the self-service integration for the European Business Wallet: onboarding, configuration, key and certificate management, and usage insight
  • Building interfaces between our web apps and the underlying platform services, including data models and migrations
  • Implementing standards such as AdES, OpenID Connect, and OpenID for Verifiable Credentials in user flows that stay understandable
  • Contributing to our public website and the developer experience of our documentation
  • Contributing ideas on architecture and technical decisions, and proposing improvements to the platform
  • Writing clear, tested, and well-documented code, including end-to-end tests with Playwright
  • Collaborating with colleagues from compliance and audit to ensure technical implementations align with regulations such as eIDAS

Who you are

  • You enjoy building things people actually use, and you pay attention to the difference between "works" and "works well"
  • You feel at home in systems where correctness matters just as much as speed
  • You're confident taking ownership of a new domain on your own, and you actively seek alignment when something touches on compliance or security
  • You fit a young, dynamic organization where everyone is a jack-of-all-trades and a lot is possible, as long as you stay within the boundaries our qualification requires
  • Affinity with cryptography, PKI, or digital identity is a plus, an interest in these areas is a requirement
  • You are fluent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken

You have roughly 2 to 5 years of experience as an engineer. You independently take on well-defined features and grow further with mentoring from experienced colleagues.

Your technical background (indicative)

  • Language: TypeScript and Node. Experience with the JVM is a plus, we use it for document processing
  • Front-end: React, Tailwind, shadcn/ui
  • Back-end: NestJS, oRPC, Zod, Drizzle, OpenFeature
  • Tooling: Playwright, Swagger/OpenAPI, Docker
  • Standards: AdES, OpenID Connect, OpenID for Verifiable Credentials
  • Experience with this exact stack is not a hard requirement. Demonstrably picking up new technology quickly is

How we work

  • We steer on the four key metrics: small changes, short lead time, fast recovery, and low failure rate. Releasing is routine, not an event
  • Our technology stack is continuously managed through an architecture process where your active involvement is valued, in the spirit of Scaling the Practice of Architecture, Conversationally. Architecture here is a conversation, not a document thrown at you
  • We work with Claude Code and other AI tooling where it makes us faster and better. You are and remain responsible for what goes into production
  • Tight policies, loose culture. The rules around security and compliance are fixed, the way we work together isn't

What we offer

  • A role with real substantive impact in an organization that delivers trust as its product
  • A market-conform salary, based on 40 hours, corresponding with your knowledge and experience
  • 26 vacation days
  • A non-contributory pension plan (fully employer-paid)
  • Technically challenging work at the intersection of web engineering, cryptography, and European regulation
  • Room for personal development (training budget, conferences)
  • Hybrid working, with our office in The Hague as your home base, with the best view of the city
  • A small, close-knit team where your voice is heard

Last but not least

We want you to be yourself, and everyone is welcome. Our team is diverse, representing multiple nationalities, genders, ages, sexual orientations, religions, cultures, and personality types. This diversity is what makes our team so special!
