Electronic attestation of attributes (EAA)

An electronic attestation of attributes (EAA/QEAA) is a signed digital statement - age, diploma, mandate - held in an EUDI Wallet under eIDAS 2.

An electronic attestation of attributes - often abbreviated EAA, with the qualified variant known as QEAA - is a signed digital statement about characteristics of a person or organisation: age, diploma, mandate, registration, membership. Introduced as a trust service by eIDAS 2, it is the regulated European form of what the wider ecosystem calls verifiable credentials.

A QEAA is the qualified variant, issued by a QTSP; see QEAA for how its accuracy and legal effect are established. Users hold attestations in their EUDI Wallet and present them selectively (only the attributes needed) - see selective disclosure. Attestations typically use standards such as mdoc / ISO mDL, SD-JWT and OpenID4VC, though other formats and protocols are possible. An EAA is distinct from Person Identification Data (PID), which is separate wallet data issued under a notified eID scheme rather than an attestation. Issuing QEAAs is one of the roles Cleverbase targets as a QTSP.
