Signature validation report

A signature validation report records TOTAL-PASSED, TOTAL-FAILED or INDETERMINATE status per ETSI standards, so you can archive proof of what was checked.

A validation report is the structured outcome of signature validation: per signature a status - TOTAL-PASSED (cryptography, certificate chain, trusted-list status and time all check out), TOTAL-FAILED (proven broken, e.g. the document changed) or INDETERMINATE (no conclusive pass or fail: the evidence is missing or incomplete, but also where a check cannot be completed or the policy leaves the outcome open) - plus sub-indications that explain why, such as REVOKED, SIG_CRYPTO_FAILURE or TRY_LATER. The validation procedures and status indications are set out in ETSI EN 319 102-1; the report's own format and structure are standardised separately in ETSI TS 119 102-2.

The report is the artefact you archive alongside a signed document: it proves what was established at validation time, including the signature level (QES/AdES) that was determined. eIDAS Article 32 sets the requirements for validating a qualified electronic signature, and Article 33 defines the qualified validation service; such services issue reports with their own qualified assurance.
