DigiD

DigiD is the Dutch public eID for citizens, issued by Logius, used to log in to government services like the Belastingdienst and municipalities.

DigiD is the Dutch public eID for citizens: the login means for government services such as the Belastingdienst, healthcare portals and municipalities. It is issued against the BRP (the population register) by Logius, the scheme operator, and offers a ladder of assurance levels - Basis, Midden, Substantieel and Hoog - which broadly map onto the eIDAS assurance level categories low, substantial and high. Substantieel is reached by activating the DigiD app and completing an identity-document check; Hoog additionally requires logging in with the chip of an identity card or driving licence.

DigiD is regulated nationally by the Wdo, though that regime's assurance-level requirements apply only to Substantieel and Hoog - Basis and Midden fall outside its scope. Compliance with the Wdo is supervised by the Rijksinspectie Digitale Infrastructuur (RDI). DigiD is also notified under eIDAS, so it can be used at public services in other member states that accept notified eID means. DigiD is a login means that also transmits identifying data such as the BSN to relying parties, but unlike the EUDI Wallet it holds no separately verifiable set of attributes and cannot sign documents. Alongside personal use, DigiD Machtigen lets someone log in and act on another person's behalf, for example a family member or authorised representative.
